He first traveled to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake with other volunteer medical professionals, performing surgery and administering other treatment. He learned one of the biggest challenges was a lack of resources to provide medical care.
Over the past five years, Dr. Regala traveled there several times and helped establish a permanent American surgeon volunteer rotation at the hospital where he treated people to train orthopedic residents so they can take care of their countrymen.
Dr. Regala earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Miami.
