Mr. Story was injured in the fourth inning during an April 5 game against the Los Angeles Angels. Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow issued a statement on X April 9, announcing that Mr. Story will likely miss the rest of the baseball season.
“After speaking with our medical staff further, confirmation on a second opinion and Trevor’s decision to go forward, we had talked about some concern over his bony structure,” Mr. Beslow said. “He’s got a fracture of the glenoid rim, so he’ll have surgery on Friday to fix that.”
Mr. Story signed a six-year, $140 million contract with the Red Sox in 2022 but has yet to play a full season with the team.
In 2022, he was limited to 94 games after recovering from a hairline wrist fracture. In 2023, he underwent a Tommy John surgery that cost him four months.
