The orthopedic surgeon had been fighting cancer for four years, and passed away in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Cavoto began his service as chief of orthopedic surgery at Minot (N.D.) Air Force Base in 1967.
He earned his medical degree from Philadelphia-based Jefferson Medical College and completed his orthopedic residency at Pittsburgh-based Allegheny General Hospital.
