Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Carter has practiced at Carter Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Wilmington, N.C., since May 2011.
2. After his retirement, his patients will be transferred to OrthoWilmington.
3. He chaired the department of orthopedic surgery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington from 2005 to 2007.
4. He also co-chaired the Committee on Athletics for the New Hanover-Pender County Medical Society in 2014.
5. Dr. Carter completed a sports medicine fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
