She is an orthopedic surgeon and professor at the Lexington-based university and cofounded the Active Girls and Health Women initiative, according to an Aug. 18 news release.
Dr. Ireland has been team physcian for Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond for 18 years and the University of Kentucky for 11 years. She also worked with the Bluegrass State Games, the Olympics and the Olympic Sports Festival.
She is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and a member of Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, Kentucky State Advisory Council on Athletic Trainers and affiliate member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
“This is her legacy,” Mark Hutchinson, MD, who complete a fellowship under Dr. Ireland, said in the release. “She has had thousands of patients, hundreds of elite and Olympic athletes and thousands of students. And through these fellows and students, she has another generation of patients who have benefited from her work.”
