Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum underwent surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery on May 13, according to a May 14 report from ABC affiliate WCVB.
The surgery was performed by HSS foot and ankle specialist Martin O’Malley, MD.
Mr. Tatum sustained the injury during a May 12 semifinal playoff game against the New York Knicks. He was unable to put weight on his right leg and left the game in a wheelchair.
According to experts, a ruptured Achilles tendon injury is extremely painful and recovery can take up to four to six months. It is unknown when Mr. Tatum will return to the court.
