Orthopedic surgeon Lyle Micheli, MD, director emeritus of Boston Children’s sports medicine division, died, the hospital said in a Dec. 17 announcement.
Dr. Micheli co-founded the nation’s first sports medicine clinic for young athletes at Boston Children’s, and that be came the hospital’s sports medicine division. Under his leadership he became a pioneer in children’s sports care.
During his career he was Boston Ballet Company’s physician for more than 40 years, and he volunteered with the Boston Marathon where he was a finish line director for more than 50 years.
He was 85 years old, The Boston Globe reported Dec. 21.
