Dr. Pearson, a podiatrist, is the first and only physician in Morris and Ottawa, Ill., offering this procedure. The STAR Total Ankle is manufactured by Small Bone Innovations and is FDA-approved. The ankle implant attaches directly to the bone without the use of cement. Performing an ankle replacement using this implant requires special training and certification, according to the report.
