Mr. Cavalli suffered a grade 3 sprain of his right ulnar collateral ligament during a spring training game, according to a report from the team.
Dr. Meister will perform Tommy John surgery, a reconstructive elbow surgery that repairs a partial or complete tear of ligament.
The surgery has a recovery time of 12 months, leading Mr. Cavalli to miss the entire 2023 Major League Baseball season, the report said.
Dr. Meister is the director of sports medicine at Arlington-based Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers, another MLB team.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
