Mr. Story underwent an internal bracing procedure of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow after experiencing pain while training for the upcoming season, the report said.

Dr. Meister is the director of sports medicine at Texas Metroplex Institute and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers, another MLB team.

Chaim Bloom, chief baseball officer of the Red Sox, did not give a timetable for Mr. Story’s recovery but did not rule out a return to action at some point in the 2023 season.
