Keith Meister, MD, performed elbow surgery on Yu Darvish, a pitcher for the San Diego Padres.
Dr. Meister performed a UCL repair surgery with an internal brace on Mr. Darvish’s right elbow, according to a Nov. 4 news release from mlb.com.
Mr. Darvish missed more than three months during the 2025 MLB season with elbow inflammation. In 2015, Mr. Darvish underwent Tommy John surgery in the same elbow.
The procedure will cause Mr. Darvish to miss the entirety of the 2026 MLB season, the release said.
Dr. Meister is the director of sports medicine at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers, another MLB team.
