Dr. John Wechter aims to quality for 2016 US Olympic wrestling squad: 4 things to know

John Wechter, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, is training to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games as a member of the U.S. wrestling squad, according to a West Central Tribune report.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Dr. Wechter is currently training for the 98-kilogram weight class trials that will take place on April 9.

 

2. He is ranked fourth in the USA Wrestling 98-class poll. But, he did win the 98-kilogram weight class at the 2013 U.S. Open.

 

3. Dr. Wechter practices with Willmar, Minn.-based Affiliated Community Medical Centers.

 

4. He completed a hand surgery fellowship at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.
