Dr. Sack was an orthopedic replant specialist and pioneered new techniques, according to a Feb. 15 obituary. He completed more than 160 replant surgerties, including one of eight severed fingers.
He logged the most hours on call in Seattle-based University of Washington’s orthopedic department and trained 76 hand surgery fellows and hundreds of orthopedic residents. When he retired, the department endowed an annual John T. Sack lecture.
Dr. Sack earned his medical degree at Thomas Jefferson University and completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania, both in Philadelphia. Before his residency, he was a Captain in the Navy.
