John Fowler, MD, and Dharmesh Vyas, MD, PhD, performed successful surgery on Rickard Rakell, a forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The left hand surgery was completed at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to an Oct. 26 news release from the team.
The procedure has an expected recovery time of six to eight weeks.
Dr. Fowler is an orthopedic surgeon at UMPC, specializing in hand and arm deformities.
Dr. Vyas is an orthopedic sports medicine specialist at UMPC, and also serves as head team physician for the Penguins.
