The extent of the injury to Mr. Giolito’s ulnar collateral ligament is not fully known, so the operation could either require a brace procedure or full Tommy John surgery, according to a March 11 news release from mlb.com.

Mr. Giolito experienced discomfort in his right elbow following a game on March 1.

Dr. Dugas is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham. He specializes in shoulder, knee and elbow treatments and serves as the team physician for Troy (Ala.) University and numerous high schools.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
