Dr. James Andrews performs elbow surgery on New York Mets’ Jeremy Hefner

James Andrews, MD, has been tapped to perform elbow surgery on New York Mets pitcher Jeremy Hefner, according to a CBS New York report.

Dr. Andrews, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, received the 2014 Robert E. Leach Mr. Sports Medicine Award at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s Annual Meeting in Seattle. He will perform a ‘Tommy John’ surgery on Mr. Hefner’s right elbow, according to the report.
