Greg Merrell, MD, of Indianapolis-based OrthoIndy was named as the next editor-in-chief of The Journal of Hand Surgery, the practice said June 25.
Dr. Merrell’s clinical focus includes wrist arthritis, fracture care and minimally invasive upper extremity procedures, according to a news release.
He holds two orthopedic patents, and his research work focuses on bone healing and innovative surgical approaches. Dr. Merrell earned the Marshall Urist Award from the American Orthopaedic Association for his research on bone healing and authored multiple journal articles and book chapters.
“It is quite an honor for me because it’s fundamentally the most impactful position in the world of hand surgery,” Dr. Merrell said in the release. “It’s a privilege to help guide the future of our specialty and support research that ultimately benefits patient care.”
Dr. Merrell earned his medical degree and completed his residency at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
