Dr. Frederick Azar named UT Health Science Center orthopedic chair

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center-Campbell Clinic Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering has named Frederick Azar, MD, as chair of the department. 

Dr. Azar currently serves as chief of staff at Campbell Clinic and is a professor as well as the sports medicine fellowship director in the orthopedic surgery and biomedical engineering department, according to a Dec. 8 news release from the university. 

In addition, Dr. Azar served as team physician for the Memphis Grizzlies and was named the 2012 NBA Team Physician of the Year. He is currently a consultant to the NBA and is former president of the NBA Physicians Association. 

He succeeds James Beaty, MD, who served as chair since 2016. The appointment was effective Dec. 1, the release said.
