Dr. Daniel Howard completes 1st MISHA knee implant in Connecticut

Daniel Howard, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Group, performed the first MISHA Knee System implant in Connecticut. 

The MISHA system is implanted on the medial side of the knee during outpatient surgery and is an alternative for individuals with osteoarthritis who don’t want to undergo a total knee replacement, according to a Nov. 6 news release shared with Becker’s

There are no device-imposed restrictions on post-operative weight-bearing or activity with the implant, which can reduce peak forces by over 30%. 

The implant is the first implantable shock absorber that reduces weight on the knee joint, and it was recently granted market authorization from the FDA, the release said. 

Dr. Howard provides treatment for a variety of orthopedic and sports-related issues of the knee, shoulder, elbow and hip.
