The professorship honors Richard Gelberman, MD, a hand surgeon who used to lead the university’s orthopedic surgery department, according to a news release. Dr. Goldfarb is executive vice chair of orthopedics.
“Dr. Goldfarb is a skilled surgeon, an innovative physician-scientist, and a sincere and thoughtful mentor and leader,” David Perlmutter, MD, executive vice chancellor for medical affairs, said in the release. “This professorship was born out of the desire of many to honor Dr. Gelberman’s many years of leadership and his impact on countless lives — those of his patients, his colleagues, and so many orthopedic surgeons around the country he helped mentor.”
Dr. Goldfarb specializes in pediatric hand and upper limb difference care. In 2014 he co-led the formation of a consortium to advance upper extremity care in children.
