1. Dr. Laurencin received the award, the nation’s highest honor for achievement and leadership in advancing the field of technology, from President Barack Obama.
2. Dr. Laurencin is CEO of the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, director of the Institute for Regenerative Engineering and the Albert and Wilda Van Dusen Distinguished Endowed Chair Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UConn Health in Farmington.
3. Dr. Laurencin is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.
4. His research centers on tissue engineering, biomaterials science, nanotechnology and stem cell science and regenerative engineering, a new field.
5. He completed his sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
