Adam Schiff, MD, of Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Medical Center, has used a new minimally invasive technique to repair ruptured Achilles tendons.

The new minimally invasive technique requires a one or one-and-a-half inch horizontal incision that is perpendicular to the Achilles tendon. The surgeon uses a device that allows for most of the repair work to be done outside the body.

“It’s the new trend in foot and ankle surgery,” said Dr. Schiff. “For those who qualify, the minimally invasive approach has been very successful.”

Dr. Schiff is an assistant professor in the department of orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
