Omaha, Neb.-based Creighton University School of Medicine has received approval to launch a new orthopedic surgery residency program beginning in summer 2026.

The five-year program will begin recruiting through the 2026–2027 National Resident Matching Program cycle. As the second orthopedic residency in the state, it is part of a broader effort to expand access to musculoskeletal care and address workforce shortages in Nebraska and surrounding areas, according to a Feb. 25 news release.

Residents will train at CHI Health Lakeside and CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy and other affiliated sites. The program coincides with the opening of a new CHI Health Orthopedic Center at Lakeside, which is set to open in summer 2026.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
