CreakyJoints developed ArthritisPower with University of Alabama at Birmingham researchers. ArthritisPower is a patient-led, patient-centered research registry for arthritis.
CreakyJoints conducted a research participation survey of 970 rheumatoid arthritis patients.
Here are five highlights:
1. The survey found 68 percent of respondents had never participated in arthritis research.
2. However, 93 percent of those surveyed would be interested in participating if physicians offered the opportunity.
3. If a medical school or hospital invited research participants, 87 percent of those surveyed would participate.
4. If invited by a non-profit organization, 79 percent would participate; if invited by the government, 73 percent would participate.
5. Sixty-three percent of respondents reported interest in working with a drug company.
“Historically, the rheumatology patient community has not had measurable and actionable means to help determine what researchers investigate to better understand arthritis. Now we do,” said W. Benjamin Nowell, PhD, director of patient-centered research at CreakyJoints and lead author of the studies.
