Colorado health system 1st in region to offer cryoanalgesia knee pain relief

Tomas Pevny, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Glenwood Springs, Colo.-based Valley View, has become the first in the region to offer Iovera, an FDA-approved nonsurgical, nonopioid knee pain treatment, according to a July 20 press release sent to Becker’s.

Iovera is a cryoanalgesia technology that allows healthcare providers to block pain for immediate and long-term relief by delivering precise cold therapy to a targeted nerve.

It has shown long-term effectiveness in the treatment of knee pain, stopping nerves from sending pain signals for up to 90 days.

It is administered with a nonsurgical handheld device and does not cause any damage to the surrounding knee tissue.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
