Bradenton, Fla.-based Coastal Orthopedics completed its first outpatient total ankle replacement, according to a Jan. 28 news release shared with Becker’s.
Matthew Pacana, MD, performed the milestone case at Coastal Orthopedics’ ASC. Total ankle replacement includes general anesthesia and a regional block. During surgery, physicians use a small incision to access the joint.
“This is a very exciting endeavor and a best-case scenario for patients needing a total ankle replacement,” Dr. Pacana said in the release. “As Coastal Orthopedics continues to invest in improved technology and equipment, we are better able to serve our patients, providing a smoother and more patient-centered experience.”
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
