Here are four things to know:

1. A team of surgeons and physicians with Operation Walk Chicago, a charitable medical group, went to Nepal after the April 25 earthquake to provide care at Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital.

2. Scott Cordes, MD, an assistant clinical professor with Northwestern’s medical school and a member of the NorthShore Orthopaedic Institute, was providing care to victims of the first earthquake when the second one hit.

3. Dr. Cordes and his team treated 55 of the 70 patients since the first earthquake. They will return to Chicago in another week and then schedule follow-up visits.

4. This is the first time Operation Walk, which was established in 2005, has directly helped in a natural disaster. The total death toll from both earthquakes now exceeds 8,000 people.
