Ceterix Orthopaedics received a patent for the NovoStitch Plus Meniscal Repair System.

Here are three things to know.

1. The system is designed for surgeons to affix sutures to the meniscus and secure those sutures with an anchor placed inside the bone tunnel closer to the site of the root repair, which is intended to retain the necessary tension for long-term repair viability.

2. Meniscus surgery is the most common arthroscopic procedure in the U.S.; approximately 1 million are performed a year.

3. The NovoStitch Plus Meniscal Repair System has received FDA 510(k) clearance and is indicated for approximation of soft tissue in meniscal repair procedures.
