Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai orthopedic surgeon Bert Mandelbaum, MD, has been named chief medical officer of the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Dr. Mandelbaum was appointed interim chief medical officer earlier this year and served in the role during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He will lead the federation’s medical strategy, oversee its network of physicians and guide clinical care, athlete wellness, injury prevention and long-term performance, according to a Sept. 18 news release.
Dr. Mandelbaum has worked with U.S. Soccer since 1989 and has supported the U.S. Men’s National Team at every FIFA World Cup since 1994. He has worked at nine FIFA World Cups and six Olympic and Paralympic Games.
At Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Dr. Mandelbaum serves as vice chair of Network Development. He is also medical director of the Cedars-Sinai FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence, one of only three FIFA Medical Centres of Excellence in the United States.
