California orthopedic group suffers data breach

Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Alta Orthopaedics provided notice of a data incident that may have impacted patient information. 

The practice determined that unauthorized access to certain information stored on its network occurred in February and completed its review June 24, according to a July 3 news release from Alta Orthopaedics. 

Information that may have been exposed by the breach includes patient names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license/state ID numbers, financial account information, health insurance information and biometric data. 

Alta Orthopaedics has five practice locations in California, according to its website.
