The device was designed to accurately assess muscle function and health, according to Figur8, which said this is the first time the AMA has recognized digital physical examinations as a procedure.
“The AMA issuance provides new pathways to enable wide adoption and dramatically expand the access of Figur8’s technology platform among clinicians and providers,” Nan-Wei Gong, the company’s CEO and founder, said in an Aug. 22 news release. “The new CPT code is particularly a game changer in providing new reimbursement channels for physical therapy providers.”
The CPT code will take effect on Jan. 1.
