Here are three things to know:
1. Dr. Dempsey surrendered his license in June after having practiced in Mobile for 45 years.
2. The Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners investigated alleged unprofessional conduct as well as the inappropriate distribution of controlled substances. According to court documents, he also failed to comply with a Board of Medical Examiners or Medical Licensure Commission rule.
3. In surrendering his license, Dr. Dempsey did not admit to any of the allegations brought against him.
