Advita Ortho, a global medical technology company, announced the first clinical use of its Equinoxe scapula reconstruction system, a trauma device designed to treat acromial and scapular spine fractures.
The system is intended for fractures and non-unions associated with reverse shoulder arthroplasty, as well as other trauma-related injuries, according to a May 20 company news release. The device is the first dedicated trauma solution developed specifically for such fractures.
Orthopedic surgeons Michael McKee, MD, and Peter Cole, MD, performed the initial procedures. Both physicians also helped develop the system.
The device features low-profile, anatomically contoured implants designed to fit the anterior and lateral acromion while minimizing disruption to surrounding tissue. The system also includes hook plate configurations intended to support fixation of complex fracture patterns and reduce the need for intraoperative implant bending.
The Equinoxe scapula reconstruction system will continue expanding in availability as the company broadens commercialization efforts, according to the release.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
