Funding will go toward biologic research for orthopedic diseases, with a special focus on platelet-rich plasma and growth factor injections for rotator cuff tears and knee osteoarthritis.
Research evaluating the effect of tobacco, vaping and marijuana use on postoperative outcomes for total joint replacement and the effectiveness of antibiotic bone cement for prevention of periprosthetic joint infections will also be prioritized.
AAOS made the first investment to kickstart the fund.
