The American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons in a Feb. 4 news release commended Congress’ decision to restore funding to the Department of Defense’s Peer Reviewed Orthopaedic Research Program.
The move comes after the program was eliminated in fiscal year 2025. Now the PRORP received $20 million for fiscal year 2026 as part of broader Department of Defense appropriations passed by Congress on Feb. 3.
The PRORP was introduced in 2009 and has delivered short- and long-term healthcare solutions for military and veterans. Many of the innovations have since been expanded to the broader public.
To date PRORP has funded more than 355 studies.
