AAOS: ICD-10 changes orthopedic CPT codes this year

This year, orthopedic coders will have to account for several changes to their coding systems, with the new ICD-10 changeover. Those alterations include orthopedic-related CPT code information, too.

Providing several tables with information, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons recommends coders review all the major changes in:

•    Joint injection codes

•    Radiofrequency and cryoablation of bone tumors

•    Open reduction of rib fractures

•    Percutaneous vertebroplasty and vertebral augmentation

•    Sacroiliac joint arthrodesis

•    Total disc arthroplasty

AAOS advocates coders review the entire CPT manual for changes specific to orthopedics and other specialties.
