9 US orthopedic surgeons travel to Zimbabwe

Oklahoma City-based University of Oklahoma Health Science Center is sending nine surgeons to Zimbabwe to provide free knee surgeries, according to Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corp.

Zimbabwe has very few physicians who can perform knee surgery. The team of U.S. surgeons will visit Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare, Zimbabwe, to perform the surgeries Nov. 16-20.

A few of the surgeons traveling to Zimbabwe are known for traveling around the world to provide care in underserved areas. Zimbabwe Health Minister Dr. Obediah Moyo said the government is striving to develop specialist hospitals.
