About two out of five — 36 percent of 20,000 surveyed physicians — have $1 million or more in assets, according to the Medscape Physician Wealth and Debt Report 2018.

Here are four things to know about orthopedist net worth.

1. Orthopedists were among the richest physicians: 14 percent had a net worth greater than $5 million, and 41 percent had a net worth of $2 million or more.

2. Over a quarter — 28 percent — of surveyed orthopedists had a net worth under $500,000.

3. Of the respondents, 31 percent of orthopedists were still paying off student loans.

4. Only 2 percent of orthopedists reported living above their means, defined as outspending their income. Half of the orthopedist respondents reported living below their means.
