Hospital for Special Surgery names endocrinology, metabolic bone service leader

Hospital for Special Surgery named Matthew Drake, MD, PhD, chief of endocrinology and director of the metabolic bone service, according to a Jan. 21 news release.

Dr. Drake previously worked as a consultant at Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic’s endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism and nutrition division. His research focuses on age-related bone loss and how cancer affects bone health.

Dr. Drake began working at HSS Jan. 1, the release said. At HSS he will collaborate with orthopedic surgeons to identify and address risk factors related to bone health. 

He earned his medical degree and PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, and he completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
