Zimmer Biomet inks distribution deal for handheld orthopedic robot

Orthopedic

Zimmer Biomet entered a limited distribution agreement with Think Surgical to offer the Tmini wireless handheld robot for total knee replacement, the devicemaker said June 11.

Under the agreement, Zimmer Biomet's technology will be integrated into the Tmini robots, and it complements the Rosa robotics portfolio, according to a news release. Zimmer Biomet is now the first medtech company to offer two complementary robotic systems for knee replacement, Nitin Goyal, MD, the company's chief science, technology and innovation officer, said in the release.

"Our strategic partnership with Think Surgical allows us to explore the value of a handheld platform to accelerate adoption of robotics in orthopedic surgery," Dr. Goyal said. "We believe the Tmini system's design is particularly valuable and well-suited for knee procedures performed in ambulatory surgery centers and other out-patient settings."
