The procedure is Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, according to an April 4 news release from the team.

Mr. Pérez visited Dr. Meister twice in less than two weeks after experiencing elbow tightness. He first started feeling elbow soreness on March 14.

Mr. Pérez saw Dr. Miester in March, when testing revealed mild right elbow inflammation and no structural damage, but the pain returned when he started practicing again.

The team expects Mr. Pérez to miss the entirety of the 2024 MLB season, the release said.

Dr. Meister is the director of sports medicine at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers, another MLB team.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
