Rothman Orthopaedics' 5-year recap: 36 big moves


Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedics is one of the largest orthopedic groups in the U.S., with more than 200 active physicians.

Here are 36 notable updates from the organization from the last five years:


  • Rothman Orthopaedic Institute unveiled its relocated Lake Nona office in Orlando, Fla.
  • Mediplex Property Group opened a new facility in Newtown, Pa., fully leased to Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. 
  • The organization announced in January that it would be laying off 5% of its workforce.


  • Rothman Orthopaedic Institute completed the first procedure at the Orlando, Fla.-based Innovation Tower's ASC.
  • Steven Cohen, MD, a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon at Rothman Orthopaedics, performed knee surgery on Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Cristian Pache May 1.
  • Rothman Orthopaedic Institute launched an eight-month long campaign focusing on patient stories.
  • Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and Conner Strong & Bucklew, an insurance brokerage and employee benefits consulting firm, partnered to form Rothman Direct. Features of Rotman Direct include extended call center hours, nurse navigation services and online scheduling tool to connect with Rothman physicians.
  • Christopher Olivia, MD, left his post as CEO of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in March.
  • In March, ROI laid off 18 employees in corporate service roles.


  • Five surgeons working at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute's Florida locations were named Premier Doctors by Orlando Magazine.
  • Alex Vaccaro, MD, PhD, president of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, was recognized as the world's top-rated spine care expert for the second consecutive year by Expertscape.
