1. There are 19,060 employed orthopedic surgeons in the U.S., with the exception of pediatric orthopedic surgeons, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

2. The number of orthopedic surgeons is projected to shrink by 5,050 by 2025, according to Physicians Thrive’s “2023 Physician Compensation Report.”

3. The average annual salary for orthopedic surgeons, with the exception of pediatric orthopedic surgeons, is $371,400, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

4. Ten percent of orthopedic surgeons are women, according to Medscape’s “Physician Compensation Report 2023.”

5. The employment rate of orthopedic surgeons, with the exception of pediatric orthopedic surgeons, is projected to increase 1.6% by 2032, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
