6 Hospital for Special Surgery leaders to know

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery recently named two new associate surgeons-in-chief, Answorth Allen, MD, and Mathias Bostrom, MD. 

Dr. Allen is a shoulder, knee and elbow specialist at HSS. He is a team orthopedist for the New York Knicks basketball team. 

Dr. Bostrom is a hip and knee replacement specialist and also specializes in treating musculoskeletal infections.. He is an expert in merging old and new technologies. 

Meet four other leaders of the top-ranked orthopedic hospital: 

Louis Shapiro is the CEO of HSS. He has served in the role since 2006, overseeing all strategic and operational aspects. He has more than 30 years of healthcare experience and has led the facility through major expansion and growth. He is stepping down from his leadership role in September.

Bryan Kelly, MD, is the president, surgeon-in-chief and medical director at HSS. In September, he will succeed Mr. Shapiro as CEO of HHS.  He specializes in sports medicine injuries and arthroscopic procedures around the hip. He has a faculty appointment at Weill Cornell Medical College and medical staff appointments at HSS and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Following medical school, he did a two-year fellowship at HSS. 

Stacey Malakoff is the executive vice president and treasurer at HSS. She has managed the hospital's financial health for over three decades. She hopes to lead the organization into the future. 

Irene Koch is the executive vice president, chief legal officer and secretary at HSS. She has held the role since 2015, previously serving as executive vice president and general counsel at Healthix.
