Salt Lake City-based University of Utah Orthopaedic Innovation Center earned FDA clearance for its Bone Bolt system, which is an implant system to fix bone fractures.
The implants are mainly used to treat pelvic fractures as well as fractures in the long bones of the arms and legs, according to a July 20 news release from the university.
With the approval, the system can be marketed and sold in the U.S.
This is the first FDA clearance the university has received for a novel medical device, the release said.
