Richard Ferkel, MD, recieved the 2023 Arthroscopy Association of North America Distinguished Service Award, according to a June 21 news release shared with Becker's.
Dr. Ferkel works with the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Van Nuys. The AANA award recognizes physicians' service for the orthopedic community. Dr. Ferkel was honored for his dedication to teaching, innovation and community service.
He worked as the team physician for multiple high school and college teams for over 40 years. He also is a go-to foot and ankle surgeon for many professional athletes.
"The mission to improve outcomes for my patients and others has defined my practice and career, and I share that mission with AANA," Dr. Ferkel said in the release. "Being recognized for fulfilling my duty to our field and community is a true honor, and I am humbled to be included amongst generations of dedicated surgeons who enable better lives for orthopedic patients everywhere."
