Hospital for Special Surgery names executive vice president, COO

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery named Mary Cassai, RN, executive vice president and COO.

Ms. Cassai will join Aug. 14 from New York-Presbyterian, HSS said in a June 13 news release. During her 16 years there, she grew from an entry-level nurse to sernior vice president of perioperative services. 

“Mary’s capability and character match this moment of historic opportunity for HSS to meet the demand for excellent musculoskeletal care,” Bryan Kelly, MD, incoming CEO, said in the release. “I look forward to her partnership and leadership in advancing the operational excellence needed to ensure HSS is the best place for doctors and other clinicians to provide care, for patients to receive care, and for all colleagues to realize their full potential.”

HSS is undergoing a leadership shift, and Dr. Kelly will step into the CEO role later in 2023. Douglas Padgett, MD, will suceed him as surgeon-in-chief and medical director.
