Surgery planning software co-developed by NuVasive earns FDA nod

Software, Machines and Adaptative Implants in Orthopaedics recieved FDA 510(k) clearance for its custom surgery planning software developed with NuVasive.

The software is designed for joint surgery and is based on SMAIO’s Balance Anaylzer 3D software, according to a June 8 company news release.

SMAIO and NuVasive initially partnered in 2022. Under the partnership terms, NuVasive will pay $3 million to SMAIO after this milestone. The companies plan to integrate the Balance Analyzer 3D into NuVasive’s platform.
