Mr. Brubaker began to feel pain in his right elbow at the end of spring training in March, according to the report.

Dr. Meister performed Tommy John surgery, a reconstructive elbow surgery that repairs a partial or complete tear of ligament.

The surgery has a recovery time of 14 to 16 months, the team said on its Twitter page.

Dr. Meister is director of sports medicine at Arlington-based Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers, another MLB team.
