He is now one of the only surgeons in the U.S. to reach the landmark, according to a news release. Dr. Berger, of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago, was one of the first surgeons to perform outpatient hip and knee replacements.
Later this year, he is expected to surpass 15,000 outpatient joint replacements.
